Chat Greeting Tweaks

Tweaks autonomous greetings that happen before sims begin conversations. Defaults to non-touching greetings for sims who are sitting down (such as when eating meals, relaxing in hot tubs, etc.) so they don’t have to stand up and interrupt what they’re doing.

Default behaviour and improvements

If your sims have not chatted for a while, they will perform an autonomous social greeting before they begin a chat. For sims with high relationships with each other, this usually means a friendly hug, or for romantically involved sims it could be a kiss on the cheek.

Reduced interruptions for seated sims starting chats

For sims that are sitting down and performing other actions, like eating a meal or relaxing in a hot tub, these autonomous chat greetings can interrupt what they’re doing, forcing them to stand up just to perform the greeting.

This mod performs a test to see if any of the sims chatting are seated. If the game detects that the sims are sitting, it will restrict the allowed greetings to be non-touching only, such as waving.

If your sims are both standing up, then the greetings will happen normally and can include touching greetings, such as hugs.

More appropriate chat greetings for ex-lovers

Sims that have previously been romantically involved and are now “just friends” might still perform inappropriately intimate chat greetings, such as a kiss on the cheek, or even a dip kiss if they’re in a flirty mood.

This mod performs a test to see if any romantic relationship still exists (a romance bar filled greater than 20 per cent). If the romantic relationship isn’t high enough, and they really are “just friends” then they should default to a non-kissing greeting, such as a flirty wave.

Notes

  • This mod tweak is for The Sims 4 base game on PC/Mac. It includes tests for greetings added by other packs, but it shouldn’t require these to be installed.
  • The mod rewrites the tuning files for targeted greeting tests. If you have any other mods that change the same tuning files, they may clash with this mod.
  • This mod is just for the specific greetings that happen automatically before sims who already know each other begin a conversation. It does not affect introductions between strangers meeting for the first time, which are a different class of interactions.
  • If your sims autonomously queue up a hug or a kiss, then your sims will get up to perform those. This mod only reduces the likeliness of a sim standing up before performing a chat interaction.

  1. I’ve installed this and my sim in the military will still stand up and salute before continuing to eat and her conversation. I don’t know another mod might be conflicting or not.

    1. I haven’t had a chance to play a sim in the military yet. The salute is probably a unique greeting type not covered in the mod. Thanks for letting me know, it’s something I will look into in a future update.

  2. So this mod is confirmed to be working with DU?? I use this and a few of your other mods and just wanted to check if its still compatible. BTW Thanks for making these.

  3. I really like this small mod, but got LE with the last update (related to the military salute, probably because I don’t own StrangerVille). Hope it can be fixed 🙂

    1. I actually just came here to report that I got an LE with this mod in my test save, too. So that’s the cause? My LE is known as a “blank” one, because all it says is this:

    1. You’ll have to try it for yourself; I haven’t ever tried that mod. My mod only affects the invisible autonomous greetings when sims start a chat (the don’t show in the action queue) – not any of the romantic introductions. If there are the same XMLs in another mod, either game will pick one or the other to use.

    1. It should, as far as I know. I haven’t actually had time to play the game since the last couple of patches, but I haven’t heard anything from anyone about it not working.

  4. Thank you, Galactrix. It looks like we stopped playing at the same time. I returned to this game after the BG traits update and it seems to have very much improved since then, although the potential of this game has not yet been met.

  5. Thank you for sharing your fixes Could you fix our inventor robot in the science career please as i miss the interaction and the making of items as the plans show up on the Sim and not in the base where products are made no smoke and sparks either
