Fixes a bug with the apartment mailbox causing neighbours checking their mail to be stuck with infinite looping noises of shuffling letters and muttering to themselves.

Looping mailbox noises stuck on sims

While living in an apartment, NPC neighbours will occasionally come out to check their mailboxes. Afterwards, the noises of them shuffling letters and uttering noises like “ah” and “oh” are stuck looping on the sim until the next time you change zones or reload the lot.

This is caused by a missing “stop” state in the animation tuning for the apartment mailbox. This mod adds the missing information required for the animation to properly end when the sims finish checking the mailbox.

The official bug report for this can be found at EA Answers HQ: Apartment neighbour gets stuck with reading mail noises. Visit the thread and click “me too” to raise its importance for hopefully getting an official patch fix.

* This bug has been officially fixed in game update 1.68.154.1020 (November 2020).

Make Small Talk

While an apartment neighbour is checking their mailbox, there’s a temporary friendly interaction available when clicking on them to “Make Small Talk”. Trying to use this interaction fails with nothing happening.

This is caused by no animation being specified in the tuning file for the “Make Small Talk” interaction. This mod adds the missing information required for sims to actually perform a chat animation.

Notes

• This mod fix is for players who have City Living expansion pack installed.
• The mod rewrites the tuning files for the animation state machine for the apartment mailbox and the interaction tuning for Make Small Talk. If you have any other mods that change the same tuning files, they may clash with his mod.

Downloading and installing the mod

Download the mod package file and place it in your Mods folder for The Sims 4, found in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.

If you have game update 1.68.154.1020 (or newer) then this mod is no longer required. The bug with apartment mailbox noises being stuck on sims has been officially fixed by the update.
