Rocket Building Fix

Fixes an issue preventing you from starting construction on a new rocket ship.

Bug

When you purchase a new rocket ship construction set, there are no available interactions when you try to click on the launch pad and start building the rocket.

The interaction to start building a rocket ship tries to test whether or not you are at a festival, so that it can determine whether or not it should charge you the 1000 simoleon fee to begin construction of the rocket. The test tries to run against the new sub-contests that were added for the Finchwick Fair festivals that came with Cottage Living, but these don’t have the festival street attribute that the test is looking for, so the interaction just seems to break and so nothing shows at all when you click on the rocket launch pad. You can read more about this bug at EA Answers HQ: Can’t build a rocket.

This mod changes the interaction’s festival test so that it only checks specifically for GeekCon and nothing else. This allows the interaction to run normally again.

* This bug has been fixed in patch update 1.89.214.1030 (June 2022)

Notes

  • This mod is for people who own The Sims 4 base game and also Cottage Living expansion pack on PC/Mac with update 1.77.131.1030 (July 2021) or later installed.
  • This mod changes the start building interaction for rocket ships. If you have any other mods that affect the same tuning files, they may clash with this mod.
  • This issue has been officially fixed in game update 1.89.214.1030, which means this mod is no longer needed.

Downloading and installing the mod

Download the mod package file and place it in your Mods folder for The Sims 4, found in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.

If you have game update 1.89.214.1030 (or newer) then this mod is no longer required. The test which caused the issues was removed from the interaction to start building rockets.

You can check the compatibility with the latest game update on the mod status overview page.

    1. It’s working for me. Are you sure you’ve got mods enabled, you’ve installed the mod in the correct folder and you’re trying to fix the specific bug mentioned in the description? It won’t fix other rocket related bugs – only the one mentioned.

      1. Mod’s are enabled, Mod sitting in correct folder (I can see it when I view mods in game), I’ve purchased a rocket, the pad is sitting on my lot, with boxes in the graphic, and none of my sims can interact with it at all. I have the base game and cottage living, all updated. It does not fix the bug.

        1. It seems like the mod also required City Living installed to work properly. But I’ve made some adjustments and uploaded a new version. Try it out and hopefully it should work with only base game and Cottage Living alone.

    2. I installed the mod and can now interact with the rocket pad, but my sim still won’t build it, she just stands there and waves. Nothing is blocking her access to the rocket pad. Any thoughts?

      1. Try moving it to a completely clear open area? Nobody else has reported any issues with pathing – the mod doesn’t do anything to affect that – it only enables the menu to show up properly as it should. The rocket pad needs at least one clear tile around it in every direction for a sim to approach it.

    3. same didnt work for me either
i did everything i was supposed to do and it still didnt work
is it because i dont have City Living?
      this is really frustrating:/

      1. Are you sure you installed it correctly, mods are enabled in the game menu and it shows up in the list of active mods in the game?

  1. It works! I was about to change my sim’s aspiration and career because of this bug… Thank you!!

  2. Thank you so much for this! The Get To Work was getting pretty annoying without being able to build the Rocket. Much appreciated! 🙂

  3. I’m trying to download it but it’s not downloading instead it just gives the link I don’t know why that would be?

    1. You are a lifesaver! Doing not so berry on yellow gen and couldn’t interact with it, you think after a year from cottage living coming out they would have fixed this!

  4. Thank you! Been looking for a fix for this for a month. Can’t believe EA hasn’t fixed this. Just bought you a coffee!

  5. I’m new to mods, I don’t have a mods folder, just a sims one, and its one that I made, not one that was instantly there.

        1. You can’t use mods on consoles, so the only way to work around this rocket pad issue on PS4 is to either not install Cottage Living, or if you have Eco Lifestyle, you can activate the Tech Support NAP, invite over any NPC visitor and they will automatically start building a rocket for you, which then makes it available for your sims.

  6. YAY!!!! Fixed it when Maxis hasn’t!! I was about to give up the game…I kept on moving to different lots and getting frustrated. 🙁

  7. Fantastic. Glad that i found your fix.
I guess that the people at Maxis are overworked …
You desrve a coffee, fo’ sho !

    1. You’ll have to wait for EA to fix it officially in a patch.

I’ve done what I can by providing a mod for PC/Mac users and posting on the bug report forum my findings for what causes the bug for EA and also suggested some workarounds for console users – such as Eco Lifestyle owners being able to enact the Tech Support NAP which makes NPCs automatically start the rocket for you, after which it functions normally.

  8. Hi, This doesn’t work for me unfortunately, I play on a Mac, I have placed the folder in the correct place, do you have any other suggestions? 🙁

  9. I have been trying to download the Mod and it wont allow me to on my computer or my phone. It doesn’t give me a program to open the mod folder with.

  10. I have tried so many things to make my sim build the rocket ship and nothing worked. I found this and this mod worked! Thank you for this mod, it is amazing.

  11. Today I needed this mod, despreatly. I tried to fix the game, deleated cash files but nothing worked. So first time in my life I installed a mod! Thanks to some coments obove I knew I had to enable the mods in options or it won’t work! But now MY SIM IS BUILDING A ROCKET! Thanks a lot for that!

  12. Hey this worked for me. i only have cottage living and cats and dogs expansion with some sims packs/stuffs. I can assure you that it will work with these expansions. Thanks so much for the mod.

  13. Thank you so much!!! I was getting so frustrated and really wanted to complete the nerd brain aspiration.

  14. omg thank you!! It saved lige goal of my sims travel to his home allien planet.I dont know what I would do without it.Probably quit sims.

  15. Nice one This was bugging me for a while noticed if u start a new save it works but that’s very stress full so i apricate this mod sure its a issue with cottage living apparently object has no attribute

      1. I checked my save today and the spaceship kit still has no options available when clicked on. So nothing changed in my game and this mod would still be a great help, I guess…

        1. You should check the bottom of the main menu to see if you have game version 1.89.214.1030, and if you don’t then you should right click the game in Origin and choose Update. You can download the mod if you still really want to, but I’m no longer going to be updating it.

  16. Galactrix > of course you are right, I needed to update my game via Origin, thank you! And yes, now the rocketship kit is in order and I sooo hope this patch didn’t smash something else important to me that was working fine till now (fool’s hope). Also thank you for adding the link to download your GREAT mod anyway – I don’t have to use it now (I still clicked the link — old habits, like copying any notes I got my hands on even if they were irrelevant during my university years…), but if I only knew about it almost a year ago I would be on it like fleas on a poor doggie. Thank you again for everything and may the force be with you!
